Vale of Rheidol Railway

The Vale of Rheidol Railway runs from the mainline station in Aberystwyth along the valley and then up through stunning scenery to Devils Bridge, a journey of  just under 12 miles.  We were involved in the refurbishment of the intermediate stations along the route and have designed a new workshop building in Aberystwyth. This contains a heavy-lift overhead crane, a fully equipped machine shop, lathes and all the engineering equipment needed to restore the historic locomotives owned by the Railway. It is also used as a training and education centre to pass on the engineering skills to the young apprentices.

There are also plans to build an enormous narrow gauge railway museum complete with a round house to display the locomotives which are currently stored elsewhere;  there will be a viewing gallery for the public to see the work being carried out.  The museum will be constructed using the iron roof structure from London Bridge Station which was given to the Vale of Rheidol Railway when it was demolished to make way for the new station building in London.
