After a very long time looking at scaffolding and sharing our driveway with builders, we were delighted when the work was finished on the old garage building next door to us. Joseph McCarthy -craftsman built frames, are our new neighbours and we spent a very enjoyable morning looking round their beautiful new show room and workshop. Joseph showed us how they use the traditional ‘applied composition ornament’ technique – a long established method of decorating all types frames. He owns the historically important ‘Bloomsbury Collection’ of exquisitely detailed reverse-carved, boxwood moulds which he uses to this day to decorate the frames. Stunning feature mirrors with cutting edge TV technology are all individually designed to fit in with their surroundings, whether contemporary or traditional.
We finished our morning off with a light lunch in the garden which gave us all a chance to ask Joe questions and also for him to see a little of our work.
