A new moated and fortified manor. Our client dug out the moat himself, one part of which is a former mill pond. Inspired by Ightham Mote, it is designed as an oak frame structure overhanging the ‘mote‘, L-shaped and arranged around a walled courtyard with the moat on all sides; the great hall has a hammer-beam roof. The adjacent crenelated tower houses the master suite accessed by a stone spiral turret stair in a clockwise direction as is common in castles, to hamper the right handed swordsman!
